Reservoirs to be turned into a wildlife haven
The three redundant reservoirs at Grimsargh, now owned by United Utilities, are to be converted into wetland areas. First the water level will be lowered by breaching the embankments and the dykes that now separate them. Next bridges will be constructed to reconnect the footpaths. It is envisaged that natural wildlife will soon reclaim the site and the RSPB reckon that warblers, buntings and little ringed plovers will take up residence (but all the ducks, geese and swans may have to move on). We will keep you updated.
